The Winter Sports Season has begun

It's been a few weeks since our last post. We finally found a company with a medical electronics grade generator and we made the trip to Coatesville for the last game of the year for North Penn. While it was disappointing loss for NP, we had a great time producing the close game for our viewers. The Coatesville High School folks were great to work with and we look forward to another post season with the football team next year. Quick funny side note on that trip: The Mini Van we booked to transport our Career Study students early to the game had a broken driver side window. We didn't know it until we left and put the window down never to have it go up again. For the entire 50 minute drive home in 22 degree weather, we bundled up with our hats scarfs and gloves while the cool air rushed through the van. A memorable night indeed... We started our winter sports season with A Double Dual swim meet on Friday, December 11th. Girl’s basketball kicks off tonight. We won't be live due to the board meeting, but will be on as soon as the game ends. If we forget to blog before the break, we wish everyone a safe, relaxing and joyous winter break. See you in 2010!

No Power, No Game

Hi Folks,

We tried again to find an appropriate generator for our TV truck, but again we had no luck.  We encourage you to listen to tonight's game on WNPV 1440 am or on their website at http://www.wnpv1440.com/

We are already looking for a generator in the case that we move again next week. Stay tuned!!!

The TV gods are crazy

Late Thursday afternoon, we found out the North Penn Football Playoff game vs. Council Rock North was moved to the new Souderton High School Stadium.  We surveyed the stadium early on Friday morning to find out if our truck could be placed close enough to the stadium, if our cables would reach, if there was enough room in the press box and if we could find power.  On the way over I was thinking that it was going to be improbable that all of these stars would align.  Sure enough, when we got the the Souderton staff was more than helpful in our survey.  It looked like our truck would fit through the gate, the cables would reach and there was more than ample room in the press box.  We did need to rent a generator.  We found one from a local rental company for a great price.  We gathered the troops and made the trip.  Even though the winds were howling, and the rain was misting we started our set-up.  Our generator arrived.  We fired it up.  Turned on the power.. then trip.  Reset the breaker.... trip.   move from 30 amp cicuit to 20 amp circuit. No Trip.  Turn on our equipment... trip.

That's the tough thing about TV, no power, no TV.    We weren't happy about it, and we were looking forward to broadcasting from this beautiful new stadium, but sometimes decisions are made for you.  North Penn's own Kyle Berger is there at least broadcasting live for WNPV.

You can listen live at 1440 am or online http://www.wnpv1440.com/

What a crazy day for NPTV

It was quite the adventure on Friday with NPTV.  This afternoon, NPHS held all all school Pep Rally.  The first one we have had outside since 1988.  It was a great time and the student body really showed their school spirit.

Clearly, one of the highlights was the Dizzy Competition. Here we see secretary Sue Busch doing a face plant after spinning 7 times.

Don't worry.  Mrs. Busch was fine!

Principal of NPHS, Mr Hynes did his fair share of spinning as well.

NPTV is always there to help!

Right from the Pep Rally, we began setting up as the skies began to darken.  The wind began to gust and knocked over one of our cameras taking it out of service for the night.  We set everything we could without setting up the remainder of our cameras and took a quick dinner break.  As we began our final connections, the rain began to fall.  Our team did a great job braving the elements to bring NPHS homecoming 2009 to our viewers.  As this year's Homecoming King - Sky Lynch and Queen  - Julie Williams were announced, the rain began to just pound us.

We waited through the remainder of halftime to see if the weather would relent. It did not, and we made the decision to protect our equipment and call it a night. We quickly broke down. North Penn continued to dominate Souderton and won the game 27-6. What an end to a crazy week.

New Crew and more events

It's been a busy week here at NPTV.  We started the week off with the Knight of Sound on Saturday, 9/12/09.  We had another rain filled evening, but the crew pulled through and kept the equipment safe and dry during the 7 hour event.  Monday kicked off our Turf Field events with Field Hockey and Tuesday in the Pool with Boys and Girls Water Polo.  Never slowing down our career study students produced the first NPHS Morning's program on Wednesday morning.  it was a great show with just a few glitches, but very good for the start of the year.  Special thanks to Rita, Amber, Jason and Shane for stepping up to the plate and taking the initiative to get all of their segments completed and show produced.  Thank you for your professionalism.  We also had the activities fair on Wednesday and our first membership meeting with nearly 80 new members interested in joining our ranks. Welcome everyone...We expect great things this year!

NP vs LC - Rain tastic!

This is what television production is all about.  The rain did not stop, Crawford Stadium was a swamp, but we made the trip to Wissahickon to bring this Community Classic to our viewers on Friday.  The crew continued their excellent work and set-up with smiles during this tropical downpour.  Our challenges in conditions such as these is protecting our equipment.  If you saw us Friday night, you saw alot of trash bags.  It doesn't look, good, but it works better than expensive custom gear.  Check out our production photo blog here. We look forward to Field Hockey and our First Mornings program of the year.  Check out our new Morning's Area of the website to reminisce and partipate in our weekly Wednesday morning program.

Changes and Preparations

Look for our new videos in our Featured Videos section! Or you can check them out on PegCentral (which you can navigate to from our Videos page)
Also, We have switched out blog from our iWeb blogging system onto blogger. We did this for multiple reasons, it would allow us to blog from multiple locations (even during a production!), it is much easier to use and updates it's feeds faster, and will allow you (our adoring readers and fans) to post comments! It'll be a faster, more efficient way for us to know what you think of us and what we are doing, as we are doing it!
We transfered the last 5 blogs from our iWeb onto blogger to ease the transition, but if you wish to look back at the older blogs, you can do so by going HERE. It is the archive for the last blog, but sadly as time goes on this link may no longer work as we change things and eventually drop the old blogs.
We wanted to inform you of the change, so as you can become even more involved in NPTV as a viewer.

Keep Up To Date

With the new school year approaching you’ll want to make sure you stay up to date. That’s what we can offer you, we are the fastest source for videos presenting information about the district. So be sure to constantly be checking in with us here or on our channels!

The H1N1 video is complete and will be available for viewing shortly, as well as an overview of the Golf Outing that took place yesterday.

Keep a look out for more soon!

Production Begins!

Though the school year doesn’t start for another week, and it’s not another two weeks until the students arrive, the work for us is beginning to pick up as we move into full time production mode. Even though we still had plenty to do over the summer, the regular year of production begins now!

We are working on our H1N1 prevention video, an overview of the 2009 Golf Outing (which took place today), and am working on keeping up to date information of the Negotiations posted for you. On top of that, we are preparing for our first football game (next Friday, September 4th). And with all of that, we are preparing for our new crew to come in and and returning crew to begin working, including career study.

Our plate isn’t even full yet, but we look forward to the coming year and the opportunities it offers.

Also be sure to check out our new featured video of the week on our main page, our new poll, and be sure to follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/nptv for the latest updates and to get updates during our productions.

While looking through our archives, we came across some photos from when we held the 50th Anniversary of NPHS. So we added them into our albums showing our crew hard at work that day! Check it out HERE.

Keep coming back for more!

H1N1 Prevention

We are working on a H1N1 Health Prevention video! Teaching parents and students how to help prevent the spread of germs and to notice any warning signs of illness!

It’s all part of the District’s plan for helping students lead a healthier life style and making our school’s a safe place for learning!

Be on the look out for some more fun student sections of our site as the school year gets closer!

Keep a look out for more!

Take A Walk With Us

We finally have a tour for you to see our facilities. Though it’s not what we originally intended, it will have to do for now. It’s a picture tour of NPTV, HERE, that will show you the facilities here at the High School.

Eventually, we will update it with a video tour, but have found the work of getting ready for the new school year a bit more hectic than originally anticipated. Not a problem though, we live for this work and though it’s put on the back burner for now, we will get around to bringing you a video tour.

The tour also does not include a tour of the production truck, but you can see some of it, HERE, in our album section.

There are also photos from the Workshop yesterday, to let you see a little of what we did. Check them out, HERE.

The new schedule is posted, so be sure to check out our awesome programming!

We love to hear your thoughts and comments on our programming and our site, so please feel free to e-mail us anytime at nptv@npenn.org to tell us what you think!

More on the way soon. Keep checking back to see what’s new!

Workshop Worked Out

The workshop that we held today was a complete success, with some upcoming and returning students of the high school attending. We were able to give them a tour of our facilities, a rundown of how things work at NPTV, a look out our production truck, and even had a chance to run through a set-up of our news program.

Everyone had the chance to run one of the floor cameras, floor direct, and anchor!

It was a fun time that hopefully encouraged these students to participate in our program and even spread the word of what we do!
