Thanksgiving Day Football

NPTV will be airing the Classic NP v LC Thanksgiving Day Games all day today.  Watch 1997 through to the last game in 2001.  The perennial success of both these teams have kept them from playing this classic on Thanksgiving Day.  We all love the continued success of the students from both teams, but sure do miss those blustery Thanksgiving mornings when the whole community converged on Crawford Stadium for this signature Classic.  We'll bring you the next best thing, so enjoy your family, friends and turkey.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Congrats Class of 2011 and Congrats to NPTV Seniors!

Well this was a busy couple of weeks for North Penn Television.  We graduated eight seniors from NPTV and nearly 20 from the Academy of Communications at NPHS.  This group of seniors have certainly accomplished much in their time with NPTV.  Over the last three years, NPTV has captured four National Student Television Awards, two young Producer Awards and scores of honorable mentions from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.  During these three years, NPTV has created over 1200 hours of programming for the North Penn Community.  The end of the school year is always a busy time, but with the main activities focused on senior events, this becomes a time for our sophomores and juniors to shine in production.  We produced our 4200 edit senior awards a three hour program showcasing and celebrating over 400 awards given to over 250 seniors, we rolled out the red carpet and interviewed scores of seniors and their dates in all their splendid attire, we captured the sincere and thoughtful performances from the NPHS Reflections Ceremony and captured every one of the 1064 seniors who earned the high school diploma from NPHS.  However, our work doesn't stop at graduation.  While evening activities are limited to school board meetings, we have much work to complete over the summer training new students, producing segments covering summer activities, and preparing for our new school year which is only eight short weeks away.  We will also be holding our middle school camp for the second year in a row.  Last year, the camp was a huge success.  The students in this camp produced three shows in just one short week.  The production never stops at North Penn Television and we'll be sure to keep you up to date all summer long.

NP SPRING SPORTS HAVE SPRUNG

On Wednesday, we started our NP Spring Sports coverage with Girls Lacrosse taking on the Souderton Indians.  You can watch the full game at http://nptv.pegcentral.com/.  We have a whole lot of Boys and Girls Lacrosse scheduled for April and May.  It's difficult for us to cover tennis, cross country, baseball and softball, but we are going to try and make sure we at least have some highlights for our Mornings and North Penn News programs.  With our coverage of sporting events, keep in mind that weather plays a big role in our ability to cover the game.  At the turf stadium, most games will continue despite the rain.  Unfortunately for us, there is no cover for our cameras and sound equipment.  If we expect rain or if it begins, our coverage of the game might be delay or cancelled.  Most of our games will be aired live.  We post our expected airtime based on the published game time, however depending on the JV game prior, the actual start may begin a little earlier or a little later.  Stay tuned, it's going to be a busy month of production for NPTV.  Keep on watching and let us know how we are doing! nptv@npenn.org

SNOW BLOG! Learn how mornings go during a snowy morning.

Of course everyone knows that the fastest way to find out about school delays and closings is NPTV. How do I know this, because we post on NPTV first! Actually, many people wonder about the process we go through on a snowy morning. ((quick promotion)) ---Find out more by watching this month's edition of North Penn's Finest.

Typically, Dave Kelly - Coordinator of Custodial Maintenance and John Strobel - Manager of Support Services- from our Facilities department track the weather overnight and drive the roads as early as 2 or 3 in the morning to assess the conditions.

Dave and John make a recommendation to our Superintendent, Dr. Curt Dietrich then joins a conference call with Superintendents of the sending schools to North Montco Tecnical Career Center to discuss what each district is planning. A closure of one sending school has a a big impact on the classes for NMTCC. Dr. Dietrich makes the call based upon the recommendations of our facilities and transportation department. The very next phone call is to NPTV. And literally within seconds of John Strobel saying - "Schools are closed" The information is immediately on NPTV. We pride on ourselves on seeing how fast the notification goes up on the channel. This morning, we posted the information as John finished his sentence. .002 seconds!
New World Record!

Of course we use all means of communications to notify our community of delays, closures or dismissals. After NPTV, you can find the info at www.npenn.org, Inform-a-Phone (215) 368-7662 as well as all of the local broadcast outlets. I mean all. If you would like text notifications, there are two options we utilize. You can sign-up for alerts at Montgomery County Alert System. Make sure you select North Penn School District as a notification. You can also follow us on Twitter/ NPSD.

In cases of unscheduled early dismissals, we will also utilize our School Messenger system to notify parents when we will be dismissing. In that case we will call all the phone numbers and e-mail addresses that parents have provided on their emergency notification cards. We do not use School Messenger for standard 2 hour delays or closures due to weather. For more info on our emergency communication visit the NPSD website.

If you are interested in more snow coverage take a look at our facilities department in action here for the video and here for the photos.  To see how all of our busses are cleared on a snow morning click here. Please feel free to comment. We look forward to hearing from you. Stay Warm!
