TV CAMP ENDS WITH THREE BIG SUCCESSES
What an amazing week at the NPTV Production camp for middle schools students. In four short days, the students went from walking into a TV Studio for the first time, to producing three shows. On Wednesday, all of the students who wanted to be on-air discussed story ideas, wrote stories, shot video and edited packages. All of those on the technical side learned more about signal flow, how to use the newtek tricaster, camera placement, interview set-up and most important how to properly wrap a cable. Over, under, over, under, over, under......
Today we had three hours to prep and tape three separate shows. We did one practice run (didn't really need it) and one for air. We had a few hiccups here or there, but overall each show was of broadcast caliber. You can check out photos from today here. The Reporter was also here getting the story behind the story. Look for the article in Friday's or Saturday's issue. There should also be a video from The Reporter on their site.
Thanks to all the students for a great week. We look forward to working with everyone this fall.

Day 2 of Camp had a media blitz
As we were preparing for our second day a camp, we had two local media outlets visit today. First a videographer from Fox29 stopped in to shoot some footage and share some career advice with our students. A short clip aired in the 5:00 p.m. hour of the newscast. (Hey TV Campers -What is this type of clip called?) An Intelligencer photographer visited a short time later and took some photographs for the printed paper as well as their online edition.
Check out the Intelligencer story here
Tomorrow we finish up our studio training and move right into production for our shows on Thursday.
For our non-TV campers the video clip on Fox 29 is called a VO or voice over because the anchor voices over the video. We are pretty complex people in the TV business with our complicated TV lingo!

FIRST DAY OF TV CAMP GREAT SUCCESS
We had a busy first day of TV camp for middle school students at the NPTV studios today. Students ran through all of the positions and even got through most of our first script today. On Tuesday, everyone will have a chance to be on the air. We will also make assignments for our final show on Thursday. Below are a few pictures from Monday.

TV Camp starts Today!
At 9:00 a.m. this morning we begin our first TV Camp for Middle School Age students. We are very excited to start this morning. Our goal for the week is to have the students create a ten minute television program from start to finish. There are 31 students signed up for this camp and we have the best students and staff to guide them through this journey this week. Behind the scenes we have our own, Mary Faikish, Chris Doerr, Greg Fisher and Bob Gillmer from the Communications Media Department; Producers - Shayne Dwyer and Rita Kraynak from the NPTV class of 2010; and Shane McElwain Class of 2011 to assist in all of this week's production. Look for pictures, video and more at nptv.npenn.org all this week!
